Desexing your pet
Desexing is a surgical procedure that involves removal of part of an animal’s reproductive system so that it cannot breed.
Known as “spaying” for female animals and “castration” for male animals, desexing your pet is strongly recommended by Vaucluse Vets.
Desexing not only prevents accidental pregnancies, but also has numerous other benefits including:
Prevention of testicular and prostate cancer in males
Reduction in mammary cancer and uterine infections (UTI) in females
Decrease in aggression to other animals and humans
Being less prone to wander
Reduction in litters puts less strain on animal shelters
Many councils now require your pet to be desexed to qualify for reduced registration fees. Recovery time for pets after surgery is quick and your pet will maintain the same personality it had before surgery.
We generally recommend that you get your dog or cat desexed before 6 months. Vaucluse Vets provides services for dog desexing in Sydney. If your pet has not yet been desexed, please give Vaucluse Vets a call so we can discuss desexing plans.
